Frequently Asked Questions
Boys and girls ages 4-19 who have physical and /or cognitive challenges are eligible to play in The Miracle League of Western MA. We will do our best to make the games adaptable for children with any type of challenge. Our field is fully accessible for those who have mobility issues.
Any child who has the desire to play baseball is welcome. We adapt the game to each child’s needs. Players may hit off of a batting tee, or may wish to have a live pitcher. Our volunteer Buddies are paired with players to give them as much or as little assistance as required. We feel comfortable in saying that we can work with any child. In addition to our on field Buddies, we have helpers in the dugouts to assist each player as they get ready to bat. Safety of our players is our number one priority and our Buddies are instructed to do whatever is necessary in order to ensure each player’s well being.
Uniforms are provided by the league and the cost is included in the registration fees. Each player will receive a team shirt and a baseball hat. Players should dress comfortably. Children my bring their own bat and glove (labeled with their name) but is not required.
First and foremost, our games would be considered non-competitive. All games end in a tie. Games run for approximately 45 mins to 1 hour consisting of 2 innings with every player coming to bat in each inning. We will distribute schedules prior to the start of the season. Earliest games begin at 9am on Sunday mornings with additional games following.
There are no organized practices held. Players and buddies can practice on the field before each game.
The Miracle League of Western MA has two baseball seasons. The spring season is 8 weeks and begins in late April and concludes in mid-June. The Fall season is 6 weeks and begins in mid-September and runs through mid-October.
Each player will be assigned to a team in one of two separate divisions based on their age. Players may request to play with a particular friend who is also playing in the Miracle League. Be sure to note this friend request on your registration where asked. We do our best to accommodate all requests.
Registration fees are $50 for the spring season and $35 for the fall season. The Miracle League is all about removing barriers for children with special needs so that they can participate in recreational, educational and cultural activities as any of their friends or siblings do. We recognize that sometimes those barriers may involve financial difficulties that a family may be going through. We do our best to subsidize most costs for our programs in order to keep them affordable. All requests will be kept strictly confidential. We are happy to work with all of our families in order to be sure that every child who wants to participate is able to.
All players will be contacted by email after registering with information about the beginning of the season. It is very important that you provide an active email address during the registration process. It’s important to note that you should mark miracleleagueofwesternma@gmail.com as a safe sender to avoid getting sent to your junk folder or rejected. Email is the primary way that we communicate schedule changes, rain-outs, events, etc. We will also post on our Facebook page so be sure to follow us on Facebook at Miracle League of Western MA.
